Philadelphia scored what proved to be the only run of the contest in the bottom of the 3rd inning. John Herrnstein doubled. After an out was recorded, Bunning stepped in and he lined a base-hit scoring the run. That scoring would be all that was needed. Bunning(1-0) got relief help from Ed Roebuck who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 1st save. Jack Fisher(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He allowed just 1 run and 5 hits in 7 innings.
